Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust
The Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust is a non-profit organisation formed in 2002 by the general public and supported by Christchurch City Council, the Canterbury Community Trust ( now RATA foundation) and Environment Canterbury.
Our vision is: Communities working together for Clean Water, Healthy Ecosystems, Open Space and Safe Recreation and that we can all enjoy and respect.
Predator Free Port Hills is an initiative of the Summit Road Society. Launched in 2016, this programme supports backyard and community trapping across the Port Hills. Our vision is to protect native species and to see their populations flourish in our lifetimes. Ultimately, we want the Port Hills and surrounding areas to become predator free with thriving native wildlife in our neighbourhoods, local parks and reserves, farmland and bush areas. We are working with the Christchurch Coastal Pathway Group on how we can incorporate predator control into the design of the pathway in order to protect the native biodiversity living alongside the route.
